Destination Diani

Explore Diani like a local

Galu Beach is the quiet southern end of Diani. From the house you can sail the Indian Ocean, snorkel the reef, dine in a cave and be back for sunset. Here are our favourites. Our team is happy to arrange boats, captains and treatments for you.

Things to do

Snorkelling at the sandbank

At low tide, take a glass-bottom boat to the sandbank just up the beach. A private trip is the best experience. Or go by SUP, kayak or sailboat.

Surfing & water sports

H₂O at Blue Marlin, a 5-minute walk north on the beach: kite surfing, surfing, kayaks, SUPs and more.

Diving

Diving the Crab is a PADI 5-Star IDC Centre at Nomad, with fun dives and a full range of courses.

Kisite Marine Park

30 km south of Diani, with incredible snorkelling and dolphin sightings. Go by traditional sailboat with all the equipment on board.

Dhow trips

A sunset cruise, snorkelling or fishing on a dhow, or sail to the sandbank in a small traditional boat for two or three.

Kongo River at sunset

Take a tuk-tuk or taxi to the Kongo Mosque and enjoy a canoe cruise on the river; the local co-operative assigns you a captain.

Wellness at the house

Yoga, a boot camp, a massage, manicure or pedicure, all in the comfort of the house. We have mats on request.

Padel

Play at Padel Diani; book ahead.

Golf

A beautiful course at Diamonds Leisure Lodge. Nyali and especially Vipingo (an LPGA course) are further afield.

Where to eat

Sails

Fine dining in a picturesque beachside setting, a 2-minute walk along the beach.

Salty Squid

A relaxed beachfront spot with delicious seafood, a 5-minute walk along the beach.

Ali Barbour's Cave

Ever dreamt of a luxury dinner in an underground cave?

Nomad

A popular beachfront restaurant with international dishes, about 30 minutes' walk north along the beach. And the best gelato.

Pallet Cafe The Patio

A short drive away in Galu Shopping Centre. Great food and service, and the best croissants. The Pallet Cafes double as a hospitality training centre for deaf people.

Funky Monkey

Salty Squid's twin, across from Chandarana. Good for lunch, cocktails and the occasional late evening of dancing.

Also worth a try: Leonardo's and Jolly's (pizza), Tribearth (vegan), Apero (Belgian fare), Colobus Shade (local fish) and The K (sushi and a damn fine kimchi).

Shopping & treats

Kokkos

Beautiful cakes for special occasions, or just a coffee and a pastry on site.

Black Steer

Meat imported from South Africa: lamb, beef and more.

Wine+Cheese Diani

Cheese from Browns Cheese Farm together with WineBox.

Wine and More

All things alcoholic, and now and then jamón ibérico and cigars.

Groceries

Chandarana on Diani Beach Road, or Carrefour a little further. Fruit and vegetables from Mama Lucy next to Chandarana. Both are easy by tuk-tuk or taxi.
